About This Course

What makes a one-to-one worth the time?

A recurring meeting does not become valuable simply because it is on the calendar. The one-to-one is one of the few management spaces designed for attention rather than transaction: a place to understand what is happening beneath the status update, surface concerns early, and help another person think more clearly about their work.

“The quality of a manager's relationships is built in the conversations that are easy to postpone.”

We work through what a 1:1 is actually for, how to prepare on both sides of the table, and how to run diagnostic and developmental conversations that surface real problems before they become crises. The course closes the Management Foundations path by tying structure, expectations, and accountability back into the one conversation where all three get tested weekly.

Questions about this course
Isn't a 1:1 just a status update with extra steps?
Only if it's run that way. This course draws a hard line between status updates — which belong in written form or team meetings — and the diagnostic and developmental conversation a 1:1 is meant to be. You'll leave with a structure that makes the difference concrete.
I already run 1:1s. What will this actually change?
Most managers who take this course have been running 1:1s for years and still find real gaps — in preparation, in how they open diagnostic conversations, or in tracking development over time. The course is built to sharpen an existing practice, not just introduce a new one.
How does this fit with the rest of the Management Foundations path?
This is the third and final course in the path, after the identity shift into management and setting expectations. The 1:1 is where those two things get exercised in practice — it's the natural closing course.
